FAQ: How Long Does the Home Buying Process Take?

How long does the home buying process take?

Generally people start looking online, one of the best places to do so is on our website, BemidjiHomeSearch.com. This will give you the most up-to-date listings that are available. It’s also a direct line of communication with one of the agents on our team. From that point, once you are out looking at houses, you’ve selected one and there’s been an accepted contract on that property, the close time is typically thirty to sixty days. From the day we right that contract and all parties have signed that it’s agreed upon to the day you get the keys to move in, we’re talking about thirty to sixty days.

FAQ: Do I Need a Home Inspection?

Do I need a home inspection?

Having a realtor that is representing you through the home buying process, they are going to recommend any and all inspections. This is to look out for your best interests in this transaction. What a home inspector is doing is checking from the basement up to the roof, looking to see any safety and maintenance concerns that the home may have. When we’re going through looking at properties before we have made any offers we’re envisioning different things, maybe looking at where furniture may go. We may not be paying attention to those things that home inspectors have more of an objective view at. I highly recommend that you have a home inspection during your home purchase.

FAQ: What is Earnest Money?

Today’s question is “What is earnest money?”

This is money that is used to confirm a contract. This means that once we have a purchase agreement signed and accepted, we need to have a personal check or cash delivered to a listing broker to confirm that contract. That money is held in a trust account until we close the transaction. Those funds will be used towards the closing costs or down payment that a buyer is required at closing day.

Community Spotlight: SculpturePainters Program

Melissa: Hi! Melissa Hoover, Counselor Realty of Bemidji. We are here today to do a Community Spotlight. This is Cal Rice and he is with the Downtown Bemidji Sculpture Walk. He’s a board member and today we’re at the Watermark Art Center surrounded by the “How Much is That Doggy in the Window” sculptures. They’ve all been gathered here for a special event that will be happening soon.

Cal: Next week on Thursday, September 27th, 2018 between 5:00pm and 7:00pm we’re going to have an auction. You can come to Watermark any time before that and see all of the dogs. They’ll be on display here and then the auction is Thursday evening.

It starts at 5:00pm with a social hour and at 6 o’clock we’ll start actually auctioning them off. We’re inviting all of our artists to be here because we would like to interview each of them before their dog is auctioned. They can tell us a little bit about the back story. What they did, why they did it and maybe what they learned in the process.
